Laowa Unveils Five New Mirrorless Lenses Including APS-C 33mm f.0/95
Laowa has made a considerable splash at CP+, unveiling five new lenses: a 25mm f/0.95 lens for Micro four Thirds, a 33mm f/0.95 APO lens for APS-C, and the full-frame 35mm f/0.95, 45mm f/0.95, and 12-24mm f/5.6 lenses.
Because it is the only lens that received a set of supporting image examples, let’s start with the Laowa CF 33mm f/0.95 APO. The lens is constructed of 14 elements in nine groups and includes one aspherical lens, one special low-dispersion lens, and three high-refractive lenses. It has a minimum focusing distance of 35 centimeters (~13.8 inches) with a maximum magnification of 0.125x.
The lens features a nine-bladed aperture, 62mm filter thread, and is compatible with Sony E-Mount, Fuji X-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Canon EF-M mount.
Below are the images shared via Sightron’s CP+ online exhibition:
For Micro Four Thirds, Laowa announced the 25mm f/0.95 lens which is constructed of 14 elements in eight groups and includes one aspherical lens, one special low-dispersion lens, and includes three high-refractive elements.
Like the 33mm f/0.95, it features a nine-bladed aperture and a 62mm filter thread size. The lens has a relatively close focusing distance of 25 centimeters (~9.8 inches) with a maximum magnification of 0.17x.
The Laowa 35mm f/0.95 has a similar construction to the previous two lenses with 14 elements in nine groups including one aspherical lens, one special low-dispersion lens, and four high-refractive elements.
In what should amount to a much more rounded bokeh, this lens features a 15 bladed aperture diaphragm and a 72mm filter thread size. It has a 50 centimeter (~19.7 inches) minimum focusing distance with a maximum magnification of 0.1x. The 35mm f/0.95 will be available for Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Canon RF mount.
Laowa’s second full-frame lens announced is the FF II 45mm f/0.95 which is constructed of 13 elements in nine groups and includes one aspherical lens, one special low-dispersion lens, and one high refractive lens.
It shares that same 15-bladed aperture diaphragm seen in the 35mm f/0.95 along with the same 50 centimeter (~19.7 inches) minimum focusing distance with a maximum magnification of 0.12x. The lens has a 72mm filter thread diameter and is available on Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-Mount, and Canon RF-Mount.
Finally, the last lens announced is the Laowa FF II 12-24mm f/5.6 C-Dreamer Ultra Wide Zoom, which is made up of 15 elements in 11 groups and includes two aspherical elements and three special low dispersion lenses.
This zoom lens features only a five-bladed aperture diaphragm with a minimum focusing distance of 15 centimeter (~5.9 inches) and a maximum magnification of 0.4x. It will be available for Leica M-mount, Nikon Z-mount, Sony E-Mount, and Canon RF mount.
No pricing or time of availability was provided at the announcement for any of the five lenses, but Sightron Japan and Laowa together presented a five and a half hour seminar that discusses the lenses and shows a few sample images from each that weren’t available on the Signtron’s CP+ website:
